ECA Lifts specialise in disabled access with a difference. We believe in providing an experience for the users, by offering a product that ensures they feel properly considered. Our lifts

are designed to be stylish and classy; we don’t believe it is acceptable just to offer access in accordance with regulations. By changing the way Architects and Specifiers think about disabled access, we are ultimately helping to offer the user the best experience possible.

Our range of vertical platform lifts can be enhanced to include a lift car, which in certain circumstances is also available with automatic car doors. This gives the user the feel of a conventional lift, whilst still complying with disability regulations.

Our aim is to improve accessibility to all floors of new and existing buildings, whilst remaining cost-effective. We offer self-supporting shafts and can also supply any size configuration lift to fit current shafts – we will work with you to provide the largest possible cabin size for the amount of space available. Instead of just being restricted to a few lift options by the dimensions of the current shaft, we open up a range of alternatives to provide you with the best

solution. In addition to standard cabin design, we can offer extensive possibilities for customising the lift to meet personal tastes and requirements. All our lifts are built in accordance with the Machinery Directive and are certified to European standards.

Interview with Ken Lewcock, marketing director and Chris Mann, technical director of ECA Lifts:

What makes your product offering different?

There are many key differences in our product offering which vary from what is generally available in the market. For example, in most cases of older buildings, the disabled access is limited to the constraints of the building and generally there is very little space within

which to design a shaft. We differ in that we do not just offer standard size platforms. We work with the architect and specifier, they tell us what space is available and we will design a platform for it.

To what extent can you offer customisation?

On top of standard customisation options we seek to further improve the look and feel of the lift, not just for the user but also interms of the building. Working with the architect or specifier we  endeavour to provide a solution that is both complimentary to and sympathetic with the building. In the majority of cases we can work with you to incorporate landing doors to match the décor of the building, including fire doors. In certain situations cabin doors are

also available. We understand that design is important and standard disabled-access lifts can appear cumbersome and unsightly. Our lifts are designed to be sleek and suit the clients individual requirements.

What other options do you offer?

Continuing to consider the user and make the lift as self-maintained as possible, we can offer full battery back-up as an option.

The lift will continue to work as usual in the event of a power failure for a specific number of cycles, depending on the size of the battery back-up selected. There are many other differing options that we can offer, so much so that we will design a completely bespoke lift to each clients standard.

How do your lifts differ from open platforms and what are the benefits?

We can offer full cabins with ceilings which gives the user the conventional feel of a passenger lift. In most open platforms, the user can see the walls and generally there is only a light at the top of the shaft. This creates an uncomfortable ‘sinking’ feeling for the user as the lift descends away from the light. We aim to make the experience as comfortable as possible.

What other areas of disabled access do your products cover?

We offer a range of disabled access lifts designed to each clients requirements. In addition we offer a low rise range of vertical lifts together with Multiflight Curved and Straight Wheelchair Platform Stairlifts. Our Ultraslim Multiflight Wheelchair Platform Stairlift is designed to be installed on virtually any type of staircase. The drive system allows the platform to turn corners, traverse landings and negotiate straight and spiral staircases smoothly and safely. The

Ultraslim Multiflight Wheelchair Platform Stairlift can be used for spiral and unusual shaped staircases from 840mm wide, subject to full-site manufacturing survey.
